Born April 30, 1987, Rohit Sharma, the Indian opening batsman and Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, celebrates his 28th birthday on Thursday. Rohit is widely considered to be one of India’s most talented batsmen, and has the distinction of scoring two Test centuries in his first two innings. Rohit made his ODI debut against Ireland in Belfast in 2007. Originally a middle-order batsman, Rohit struggled to keep his spot in the line-up till his promotion to the opener’s slot in 2013. Rohit first made a mark for India in ICC World T20 2007, where he scored an unbeaten 50 on debut against South Africa. He has since scored six more half-centuries in a total of 42 T20Is. As for Tests, Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 against West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and scored 177 in his very first innings. He scored another century in his second game at Mumbai, but has suffered from playing his next eight Tests overseas, where he could only score two half-centuries.
