England continued to dominate New Zealand in limited-overs cricket when they handed the Black Caps a 56-run thrashing in the one-off Twenty20 International (T20I) at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday. Joe Root was awarded the Man of the Match for his knock of 68 off 46 deliveries. READ: England thrash New Zealand by 56 runs in one-off T20I

England lost the wicket of Jason Roy early in their innings, before Alex Hales combined forces with Root to add 51 runs for the second wicket. Mitchell Santner, who has had an impressive outing so far both with bat and ball, struck twice in the ninth over to remove Hales and Jonny Bairstow. Skipper Eoin Morgan departed after scoring four runs. However, Root continued to attack the Kiwis, and was supported by Sam Billings (21) and Ben Stokes (24 not out). In the end, some hard-hitting by Stokes saw England finish on 191 for the loss of seven. Updates: England vs New Zealand, one-off T20I

Martin Guptill hoicked the first delivery of the New Zealand innings over deep point for a six, but was bowled a couple of deliveries later by Steven David Willey, as the visitors suffered a setback early in their innings. Brendon McCullum began to launch the deliveries out of the park in no time, racing to 35 in just 14 deliveries before playing a yorker pitched outside leg onto the stumps. Williamson continued to hold the New Zealand innings together despite wickets tumbling around him. New Zealand’s hopes of ending the tour on a positive note were very much alive at 131 for five, with Williamson batting on 57. A spectacular collapse ensured thereafter, as the Black Caps lost their last five wicket for just four runs, with Willey and Mark Wood taking three wickets apiece for 22 and 26 runs respectively.
