Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been an incomprehensible part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) setup, as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL) in its seven-year history so far, having led the franchise to two IPL victories. Dhoni’s participation in the future of the tournament however, might be doubtful after the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Panel announced its judgement, suspending the owners of the CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchises, as well as banning Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for life. Dhoni, the most successful Indian skipper as well as the most successful captain in the league’s history, had not so long ago stated that he would quit his association with the cash-rich league should the India Cements Ltd-owned CSK be terminated. ‘Captain Cool’ had made the statement after allegations of corruption were levelled against Meiyappan in particular, and CSK in general, following the 2013 IPL spot-fixing controversy.

Dhoni continued to be hounded by the press over his views on the spot-fixing controversy, which saw RR players S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan get banned for life by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the 2013 edition of the Indian Twenty20 extravaganza. At one point, Dhoni even offered to quit from his post of CSK captain, as well as the Vice-President of India Cements. ALSO READ: 5 things that are likely to change following Lodha Panel’s verdict

While Dhoni might be quietly enjoying a well-deserved break with his family at the moment, his actions and decisions will be very crucial to the future of the tournament, as well as to Dhoni’s career, which is far from over as far as limited-overs cricket is concerned.
