New Delhi: The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) Sports Committee election results were declared today by the two-member observer panel of Babu Lal and GP Thareja. The 10-member committee was a split one with six members from the ruling and four from the opposition group were inducted in the panel. Vinod Tihara came back into the committee along with Naresh Sharma, Padam Singh Chauhan, Vijay Bahadur Mishra, Anil Kumar Sharma and Pradeep Agarwal, who are members of his faction. The opposition group had only four candidates including former Delhi Ranji player Gautam Vadhera, Narender Kumar Sharma, Mahesh Bhati and Pradeep Kashyap. The impasse within the board had created headlines because of the chaos this had generated in the build-up to the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Three different squads had been released by groups within the board, leading to confusion that visually manifested in the Ranji probables’ camp at Feroz Shah Kotla. Gautam Gambhir, the Delhi stalwart and their captain, shepherded the practice on the first day, but was stayed away from it on the next. A senior board official had advised him to stay away from it to prevent controversy, and his own warm-up as a batsman was being hindered in the process. Not net session was held that day. One of the reasons for this was also poor practice pitches. The ground is scheduled to host the fourth and final Test between India and South Africa in December, but the problems within the DDCA has cast doubts over the fixture.
