Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Jagmohan Dalmiya was admitted to a Kolkata Hospital in a critical condition on Thursday night after reportedly suffering a heart attack. Dalmiya was reported to be undergoing a heart surgery, for which he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital. Dalmiya, who took over as the board chief from N Srinivasan earlier this year, was admitted at the BM Birla Heart Research Centre, one of Kolkata’s leading hospitals. Dalmiya has been in the news for his ailing health in recent times aside from the various issues pertaining to the everyday affairs of the richest board in the world of cricket. He was reported to be suffering from an electrolyte imbalance on Wednesday, following which many speculated his days as the BCCI chief to be numbered. According to sources, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly and members of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) came down to the hospital, which is located in Alipore in South Kolkata. The 75-year-old, who was elected as the BCCI President unopposed after a gap of 10 years, has been reported to be ill for the most part these days due to his suffering from an electrolyte imbalance, which is known to cause memory loss and is common among aged people. A member of his family, according to an Hindustan Times report, had admitted to “his sodium level going down”, which could have potentially caused a sodium-potassium imbalance, one of the known causes of electrolyte imbalance.
Dalmiya’s health has caused a stir within the board, with many assuming it to be a signal for his end. According to reports, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) chief Sharad Pawar and his allies are among those known to be counting his final days as the BCCI chief. “It’s high time he stepped down. In fact, he will have to go. In a matter of months, the BCCI has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous,” a source close to the board was quoted as saying to DNA.
