India will host South Africa for four Tests, five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in South Africa’s largest Indian tour, of 72 days. The tour will begin with a T20 practice match in Delhi, before the first T20I, in Dharamsala, and will end with the final day of the fourth Test in Delhi, on December 7. The two countries have been engaged in only one four-Test series before, in South Africa in 1992-93. India had lost that Test series 1-0, with three drawn games. South Africa are captained by Hashim Amla, who has not lost a single game since having taken over from Graeme Smith early 2014. They won their first Test series in Sri Lanka since 1993 last year, in Amla’s first assignment as Test captain. They also defeated West Indies 2-0 and Zimbabwe 1-0 under him. India have a new captain, but only much more oven-baked fresh than Amla. Virat Kohli will have his task cut out against the world’s best Test team, in only his second multi-Test assignment after Sri Lanka, where they tour for three Tests.
