Sourav Ganguly has come it in heavy praise of current Indian skipper Virat Kohli and believes the latter’s positivity is a great asset to the way India approaches it s cricket. Ganguly admitted that Kohli’s captaincy brought back to him memories of his own playing days. Ganguly is considered one of India’s most astute captains. The praise coming from a man of the stature of Ganguly will definitely even further boost Kohli’s morale. “It absolutely does (remind me of my playing days as captain). His positivity is his biggest asset, and that is why he is such a terrific skipper,” Ganguly said. I rate him very highly, both as a player and as a captain. I think Kohli is good for Indian cricket,” Ganguly was further quoted as saying by dnaindia.com. Speaking about the match at Nagpur and the failures of Indian batsmen to spin bowling, Ganguly felt India did not have much to worry about since the batting conditions were very tough.
“Look, these are tough wickets. There have been some who have missed out, but these are quality batsmen you are talking about, the likes of (Ajinkya) Rahane and Kohli. I think our batting is in safe hands,” Ganguly said.
Ganguly also praised the bowlers for crushing South Africa on a dust bowl was apprehensive to make a generic comment on them since they are yet to make an impact in away games. “It’s very hard to compare. I always judge them on how they perform away from home. Ashwin has always been India’s strike bowler in these conditions. There’s no doubt about that. Even in the past, when he started his career four or five years ago, he would get a lot of wickets in these conditions. The ball turns, and the SG Test ball is tailor-made for spinners. Look at Jadeja. He’s also a terrific bowler in these conditions. So, once the ball turns, these are dangerous bowlers,” said Ganguly.
