The West Indies team after suffering an humiliating loss in the first Test at Hobart against Australia in the Frank Worrell Trophy 2015-16, have now been slapped with a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate. West Indies lost the match to Australia who won by an innings and 212 runs on Saturday. Chris Broad, who is in the Emirates Elite Panel of International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referees had fined Jason Holder led side, who were found to be three overs short of their required quota in the stimulate time. Going with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Players Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount. Hence, Holder was fined 60 per cent of his match fee, while all the other team members receive a 30 per cent cut in their allowances. If West Indies commits this mistake again i.e. over-rate breach in Tests within the coming 12 months with Holder as captain, it will be deemed as a second offence by Holder and will likely be facing suspension. Holder did agree to the charge of slow over -rate and accepted the imposed sanction, leaving no chance for a formal hearing. The charge called in by on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Ian Gould, third umpire Chris Gaffaney, all from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, and also the fourth umpire Paul Wilson.
