MHA terms DDCA probe committee ‘unconditional’

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday declared that the probe committee formed by Delhi Government to look into the affairs of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) was `unconditional and illegal`. In an open letter to Delhi government, Lt Governor’s Secretariat SCL Das questioned the formation of committee, saying that the elected Government of National Capital territory of Delhi is neither the Central Government nor the State Government , and therefore, they are not allowed to form a commission of inquiry. The three-member probe committee headed by lawyer Gopal Subramaniam was formed by Delhi government in the wake of the financial irregularities within the capital’s cricket association. Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday asserted that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley shouldn’t be scared of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) probe if he is innocent. “DDCA is a private company. Jaitley-ji was the president of DDCA for 14-15 years. There are charges of corruption against the association, there is also evidence against it,” said Kejriwal during an interview to CNN IBN. “DDCA made payments to many fake companies based on fake bills. Contracts were awarded for the renovation of the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium without tenders and finally there are irregularities in the selection of players,” he said, reported IANS. “Jaitley-ji was informed about all these scams. But there were attempts to protect the corrupt. Jaitley had also written letters to the police commissioner and the special commissioner asking them to withdraw the cases against the corrupt as they were all innocent,” he added.
