Ajinkya Rahane has scored a fine half century in the second One-Day International (ODI) of the five-match series against Australia. He played second-fiddle to Rohit Sharma in the earlier part of the innings while taking time to get into his act but soon took the mantle upon himself to score. He played a few delightful shots to all parts of the ground and towards the latter part of his innings dealt in boundaries. He got to fifty of the 50th ball he faced. So far the only failed batsman for India has been Shikhar Dhawan. He scored just six runs before getting out playing a rash cut short to Joel Paris and got the outside edge of the bat to the wicket-keeper. Virat Kohli was then in and he played a nice knock. He looked good in Rohit’s company but got out in an unfortunate run out with his score on 59, thanks to a brisk throw from Kane Richardson in the deep. Earlier, MS Dhoni had confidently stated India’s intention to bat first after winning the toss. The pitch has been quite good for batting but there has been something in it for the bowlers too. The assistance for the bowlers has definitely been more than at WACA. Even spinner Glenn Maxwell got some purchase and his variations helped contain batsmen.
