Shikhar Dhawan was out for a thrilling 78 off 56 balls with seven fours and three sixes in the fifth One-Day International (ODI) between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Dhawan, who had scored a fantastic century in the fourth ODI at Canberra, continued from where he left off in the previous match and started smashing the ball all over the place from ball one. His innings was much like the one Rohit Sharma played at Canberra, and got India off to a superb start. This time though, they ensured the opening stand was worth well over 100. Dhawan looked set for another successive century only to be denied by an excellent catch from Shaun Marsh in the deep. Live Cricket Scorecard: India vs Australia 2015-16, 5th ODI at Sydney

Marsh, playing for the injured Glenn Maxwell, was fielding at deep point when John Hastings bowled one short. Dhawan cut it violently in the air and for a while it looked like it would go over Marsh. However, Marsh ran back to take a superb catch diving backward. Dhawan was dismissed and Australia finally got a foot in the door. Earlier, Australia rode on centuries from David Warner and the younger Marsh, Mitchell, to post a commanding 330 for 7 in their 50 overs. Indian debutant Jasprit Bumrah bowled wonderfully and took 2 for 40 in his 10 overs. Ishant Sharma took 2 for 60 as well, but Umesh Yadav had an off day. That shot was impressive itself, but the catch that came next was truly noteworthy.

India were well on course in the chase till Dhawan’s dismissal. This was true of Canberra as well, but they will be wary of a repeat of that match.
