Virat Kohli scored an excellent unbeaten 90 off 55 balls, thereby reaching his highest-ever score in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in the first match between India and Australia at Adelaide on Wednesday. Kohli, whose previous highest T20I score was 78 not out (scored against Pakistan in 2012), is currently India’s highest scorer in T20Is. Kohli came in to bat at No. 3 at the fall of Rohit Sharma’s wicket, and put on a century partnership with Suresh Raina. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed in the same over as Rohit, so Suresh Raina and Kohli came in to bat at virtually the same time. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: India vs Australia 2015-16, 1st T20I at Adelaide
Despite batting together for almost 15 overs, the difference between the scores of Kohli and Raina was huge. While Kohli hit an unbeaten 90 off 55 balls with nine fours and two sixes, Raina could only manage 41 off 34 balls with three fours and a six. MS Dhoni came in at the end and scored 11 not out off 3 balls with one four and one six. Live Cricket Blog: India vs Australia 2015-16, 1st T20I at Adelaide
Raina also scored his 1,000th run in T20Is for India in the process. He was till quite recently also India’s only T20I centurion, before Rohit Sharma scored a century against South Africa late in 2015. However, Kohli nearly got there as well, only to run out of time batting on 90. Kohli will have a few more chances to get to the landmark before the start of ICC World T20 2016, to be held in India later this year.
