India’s Rohit Sharma has now become world’s top fifth batsmen as ranked by International Cricket Council (ICC) in their latest ranking released. Rohit Sharma who had a excellent series down under against Australia was ranked number 13 before the One-Day International series began jumped 8 places to No.5 with 761 points. India and Australia played a five match ODI series where Sharma amassed 441 runs in five matches at an abnormal average of 110.25 with a highest score of 171*. Sharma made 2 centuries and one half-century. Other Indians on the list is vice-captain Virat Kohli who is placed at number 2 just behind South Africa’s AB de Villiers with 825 points. Shikhar Dhawan is placed at number 7 with 748 points. Dhawan scored 287 runs at an average of 57.40 with one century and two half -centuries. At No. 3 is South Africa’s Hashim Amla with 776 points closely followed by New Zealand’s Kane Williamson with 770 points. Sharma is next with 761 points, with only a difference of a single point between himself and Tilakratne Dilshan(760). Dhawan is placed at No.7 which is under threat by Australia’s Glenn Maxwell at No.2 with 731 jumping 2 places from ten earlier. Martin Gutill and Ross Taylor complete the top 10 on No.9 and No.1 respectively with 722 and 720 points.
Indian captain MS Dhoni has dropped to No. 13 previous placed at 6. Dhoni has 704 points which is closely followed by the pair of George Bailey and Australian skipper Steven Smith with 704 and 702 points respectively.
