India’s skipper MS Dhoni is aware of new technology invented for viewing cricket from every angle but he strongly feels that with the invention of Spidercam surely created a hurdle for batsmen. When Virat Kohli smashed the ball for boundary which surpassed John Hastings in the 19th over at 5th One-Day International (ODI) against Australia on Saturday, the ball hit the Spidercam and was called a dead ball as per the rule book. India chased down the target of 331 runs but with hindrance of Spidercam it would have been impossible to achieve the target believes Dhoni. After a stunning performance by India on Saturday against Australia in 5th ODI, Dhoni said, “Anything that disturbs the game of cricket I don’t like it. It all started right from the Twenty20 where people would be like, ‘Why don’t you wear a mic?’, ‘Why don’t you wear a camera?’” Dhoni also mentioned, a camera which travels to give birds eye view of the entire game should be used carefully, as reported on Dna India. “I always feel there is always a need for a balance. At the end of the day, it’s a spectators’ sport, people watching on television, but at the same time four runs can really matter. Especially when it’s a 310-320 game, those four runs can be crucial,” he said. READ: Rohit Sharma becomes 1st Indian batsman to score over 400 runs in away bilateral ODI series

Dhoni mentioned cheekily if a camera gets on the way of game should be fined. “Everyone gets penalised, why not have the same system for the Spidercam? Say, ‘Okay if you get hit, $2,000 per hit.’ Let’s make it interesting,” he joked. Australia’s skipper Steven Smith appreciated Spidercam’s performance in saving few runs for their side. He added, “He was probably our best fielder tonight, Spidercam. He saved four.” Smith seem rather unhappy with his team’s performance with Nathan Lyon and Shaun Marsh dropping catches.

Smith has also experienced Spidercam last year at the cost of which he dropped a catch. He further went on to say, “I just think we need to make sure it’s away when the ball is coming. We don’t need to see things like that where it’s a dead ball. Something like that can really change the course of the game. So I just think we need to make sure we get him out of the way when the bowler is coming in to bowl.” Australia will hosts India for three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) matches starting from Tuesday, January 26. Australia’s star player Glenn Maxwell will miss first T20I against India due to hamstring injury. The 2nd T20I will be hosted at Melbourne on Friday and 3rd T20I will be played at Sydney on Sunday.
