The current West Indian squad that is touring Australia has a future legend among its ranks, believes Courtney Walsh. The retired West Indian pace legend believes that the tourists may have to rely on him further ahead in the series after getting off to a disastrous start in their tour. While Walsh did not reveal any names in this context, he maintained his belief in greatness in the current side, the first since 1980 to arrive in Australia without a recognised match-winner. West Indies lost their tour match against Cricket Australia XI at Brisbane by a margin of 10 wickets, making the prospect of facing the Australian team in the first Test at Hobart starting Thursday a daunting task. “There are a few players here on this tour that could do so. But it is up to the individual to work hard, stay focused,” Walsh was quoted as saying according to a report on cricket.com.au.
Walsh added that the star-studded team management, with Phil Simmons, Curtly Ambrose and Richie Richardson as the head coach, bowling consultant and team manager respectively would help inspire the team, which is without experienced campaigners such as Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy.
“It’s a balancing act but that is where the management team come into play. They all have their role to play.
“Encourage when you need to encourage. When you need to be hard and tough you are hard and tough. “Everything is not always going to be rosy,” added Walsh.
