Alex Hales‘ participation in the third Test between England and South Africa at Johannesburg seems to be doubtful as the opening batsman is battling a virus, according to cricket.com.au. Hales made his Test debut in the first match at Durban. He scored his maiden fifty in the second game at Cape Town. Hales was tipped to be Alastair Cook’s long-time opening partner, but it seems like England have to find a new opening partner for their skipper. Nick Compton, who has opened in the past could be promoted to the opening slot. He has been batting at the No. 3 position in the series and it will not be surprising if he is the one, who opens with Cook, if Hales fails to recover from his illness.  FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: South Africa vs England 2015-16, 3rd Test at Johannesburg

Gary Ballance, who was dropped mid-way during the Ashes 2015 series could be Hales’ replacement and has batted at the No. 3 position in the past. He will be the perfect bet to come in at no. 3. England will not be forced to make any other changes in their playing XI unless it is a tactical one. They lead the series 1-0 and a win at Johannesburg will see them seal the series with one game to spare. The pressure will be on South Africa to win the match and stay alive in the series. AB de Villers will lead the South African team for the very first time in Tests after Hashim Amla resigned following a draw in the second Test at Cape Town. South Africa will most likely go in with four fast bowlers after off-spinner Dane Piedt was released from the squad earlier.
